Sony have announced a compact version of their flagship smartphone, making the impressive performance of the Xperia™ Z1 more accessible to those who prefer a smaller handset.
The new handset will be available from February 2014, and is set to be released in four colours; white, black, pink and lime. The screen measures 4.3-inches, giving the same sized display as the much-acclaimed HTC One Mini.
However, whilst the handset is smaller than its big brother with a 5-inch display, Sony have not followed the usual pattern set by manufacturers such as HTC and Samsung in reducing the specifications of a ‘mini-flagship’ handset.
Looks-wise, little has changed when compared to the flagship Z1, with its clean, sharp design. The display is obviously smaller, with 720p resolution rather than full 1080p HD, but use is made of Sony’s X-Reality and Triluminos technology, giving crisp and vibrant colours.
Where the handset really impresses, however, is with the internal capabilities. It has the same 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor as well as 2GB RAM to ensure seamless multitasking. It also includes the award winning Sony G Lens camera technology, taking photos at 20.7MP, just like the Z1.
The handset unsurprisingly runs on Android, with Jelly Bean out of the Box and a Kit Kat update available soon after launch. It is also 4G-compatible, for those living in areas with superfast mobile internet access.
Like others in the Xperia™ range, the Z1 Compact is dustproof and waterproof with an IP58 rating, meaning that it can be submerged in nearly 5 feet of water for 30 minutes with no problems.
To make switching from another device, even an iPhone, easy, Sony have also developed Xperia Transfer Mobile, an app which helps you transfer contacts, messages, photos and apps.
All in all, the Z1 Compact looks to be an impressive phone and suitable for use in even harsh environments, without compromising on performance and style. If you would like to receive a notification when they come into stock, please contact us and we will be happy to help.
