Samsung has made a big deal about this new phone, not only choosing to launch it at a big and glitzy standalone event in London but also claiming nearly 10 million pre-orders before it’s even launched.
The device is relatively large with dimensions of 136.6 x 70.6 x 8.6mm, and has a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED HD screen; despite this, our first observation was that the device felt light to hold. There have been some concerns about the overall feel of the S3 with some people stating due to the polycarbonate material that the device feels cheap. However, we disagree, the phone feels very solid, with ample amounts of chrome and considering the size fits nicely in the palm of your hand.
The screen is exceptionally bright and sharp, with great contrast levels and colour accuracy. Surprisingly with such a large bright screen and processing power, the battery performance trade-off is not as extreme as originally though- with its 2100mAh battery it remains a charge a day device, around 8-10 hours.
The Gaming and Multimedia is very impressive, the graphics are exceptional making it the perfect device for those who like to game on the go. The Video player on the Samsung Galaxy S3 is one of the best out there on the market – without question. The range of files supported is brilliant too: from AVI to MP4 to Xvid and DivX it’s all there, and will appeal to those that like watching movies. The FM radio on the Samsung Galaxy S3 has all manner of functionality built into it – most importantly the fact you can record the station you are listening to, So many other manufacturers don’t offer this.
The S3 provides a quality Internet browsing experience thanks to the quad core chip, HD screen and powerful GPU. You can also perform that lovely option of saving for offline reading – should you come across an article you want to view at a later date when you know you may not have signal which can kept track of in a separate pane in the bookmarking section.
Overall, we were very impressed at Comm-Tech with the Samsung Galaxy S3. It’s got every kind of feature we could ask for and more, and raises the bar once again in terms of what consumers should be expecting in terms of battery life, processor speed and media management.
