The new BlackBerry 7.1 OS brings lots of new features and functionality to BlackBerry smartphones making users’ lives easier.

A new feature called BlackBerry® Tag lets BlackBerry users share information and content easier than ever before. By simply tapping their NFC enabled BlackBerry smartphones together, users can instantly invite a friend to BBM™, exchange contact information, documents, URLs, photos and other multimedia content.

And that’s just one of the enhancements they can expect. The BlackBerry 7.1 OS also offers these new benefits:

Turns a BlackBerry smartphone into a mobile hotspot – can be shared by up to five Wi-Fi enabled devices, including laptops and tablets.

Supports carrier implemented Wi-Fi calling services (UMA/GAN where available) – allowing users to make Wi-Fi calls from their BlackBerry smartphone that don’t use up their airtime minutes.

Incorporates updated BBM™ app (version 6.1) – allows users to add personal messages of up to 160 characters to their online Profile, plus set the picture for their BBM™ avatar directly from the camera app.

BlackBerry Traffic – new app from RIM, determines a user’s estimated time of arrival (ETA) based on current traffic conditions, and includes hands-free turn-by-turn voice guidance.

Enhanced search capability – includes an auto-suggest feature that intelligently filters Bing® search results to offer users a variety of relevant Web sites based on their search terms.

Local FM radio stations – allows BlackBerry® Curve™ 9360 or BlackBerry® Curve™ 9380 users to listen to local FM radio stations.
